Hydroxyzine belongs to a group of drugs called sedating antihistamines. It´s used for symptomatic treatment of anxiety and tension that results from physical illness, management of purities and allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria, contact dermatoses and motion sickness. Compared to benzodiazepine classed drugs, (i.e. alprazolam and diazepam) which has a potential for dependence and abuse, hydroxyzine is very unlikely to cause any addictive behaviour due to its relative strength compared to many other drugs.
