Ketoconazole oral uses
This drug is used to treat certain fungal infections of the skin/mouth/lungs/bladder (e.g., severe athlete's foot, oral thrush, Coccidioides, candiduria). Some of these infections may require several months of treatment.
Indication and Usage
Oral
BLASTOMYCOSIS
Adult: 200 mg once daily. Increase to 400 mg once daily if clinical response is insufficient. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.
Child: ≥2 yr: 3.3-6.6 mg/kg daily as a single dose. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.
CANDIDIASIS
Adult: 200 mg once daily. Increase to 400 mg once daily if clinical response is insufficient. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.
Child: ≥2 yr: 3.3-6.6 mg/kg daily as a single dose. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.
CANDIDURIA
Adult: 200 mg once daily. Increase to 400 mg once daily if clinical response is insufficient. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.

CHROMOMYCOSIS
Adult: 200 mg once daily. Increase to 400 mg once daily if clinical response is insufficient. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.
Child: ≥2 yr: 3.3-6.6 mg/kg daily as a single dose. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.
CHRONIC MUCOCUTANEOUS CANDIDIASIS
Adult: 200 mg once daily. Increase to 400 mg once daily if clinical response is insufficient. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.

COCCIDIOIDOMYCOSIS

OESOPHAGEAL CANDIDIASIS
Adult: 200 mg once daily. Increase to 400 mg once daily if clinical response is insufficient. Treatment duration: 14 days and for at least 1 wk after symptoms have cleared and cultures have become negative.

OROPHARYNGEAL CANDIDIASIS

PARACOCCIDIOIDOMYCOSIS

CHRONIC VAGINAL CANDIDIASIS
Adult: 400 mg once daily for 5 days.
