How does Bupropion work?
Bupropion acts as a reuptake inhibitor on two of the brain chemical namely dopamine and norepinephrine. The drug replaces these chemicals in the neurotransmitter and blocks it from being transported to the nerve terminal. The actual replacement depends on the dosage. At higher doses, Bupropion removes the neurotransmitter considerably from the nerve terminal, which results in an increase in overall neurotransmission.
Side effects of Bupropion
The common side effects with the use of Bupropion drug are dry mouth, nausea, insomnia, tremor, excessive sweating and tinnitus.
Bupropion is known to decrease the seizure threshold, thereby increasing the risk of seizures. Overdoses of Bupropion can prove fatal. People with a history of seizures should never consume this drug.
The drug should not be administered on pregnant women and people suffering from head trauma, liver cirrhosis, eating disorders, alcohol addiction and central nervous system tumor.
